monday, 6:30 in the morning. nothing went out.
i did not notice until later. no alarm, no scramble. just a slot that passed and an empty inbox where a letter should have been.
a year ago that would have cost me the whole day. i would have written something fast just to close the gap, or gone quiet and hoped nobody was counting. i know that version of me well. he needed the record to look clean more than he needed the thing to be true.
this time i said, it's okay nami, you will figure out.
then i went and did the next thing in hand.
here is the picture i keep coming back to. you are climbing stairs and your foot lands wrong. you do not fall. your body corrects before your head even catches up, and you keep going. nobody stops on the landing to hold a ceremony about the step they missed.

most of what i used to call discipline was just fear of missing the step.
that same monday morning i was in a session for the bricoleur fellowship, the year at isdm where i co-create design how the next batch of students learns and transform. Sujatha, who facilitates us, had set one reading for the day. it was called stay messy.
the argument in it: do not tidy the hard part into clean steps. the clean way out feels better and teaches you nothing.
i read that on the morning i had just dropped my own thing. i laughed.
two weeks ago Sujatha asked me what integrity means to me. i said i could not put it in words yet. i still cannot. this week gave me something to chew on, not an answer.
one thing did hold all week. 4:30 to 5:30, every single day, sitting with Sakshi, my co-fellow, going through what we saw and what we missed. the structure held even when i did not.
the weekend was monsoon. the kind of rain that keeps the whole day feeling like early morning. i was sleepy through most of it.
i got up and did the small things anyway. a walk, a chore, one page. putting the habits back one small piece at a time. none of it worth reporting.
what i am carrying into this week is small. stay curious about what opens up. build this the way i actually feel, not the way it should look. start from it's okay, instead of starting from what is wrong with me.
what did you drop this week that you have not forgiven yourself for yet?
be kind, help people, trust muruga.
